Garden Ideas
Having a well-designed garden can be very rewarding, and can even add to the value of your home. Thankfully, Martha Stewart has all the gardening tips you could ever want to ensure that your garden is the envy of everyone who walks into your home.
Landscape Design
The perfect garden should be a place where you can relax, play and entertain. That’s why Stewart’s outdoor spaces are designed to meet all of these requirements.
She has a pool area that’s both stylish and functional, as well as a dining pavilion where she can host parties of all sizes. And to ensure that her guests are comfortable, she created an enclosed patio with a tree-lined fence.
Gardening Tip: Keep Plant Bulbs Safe from Animals
Tulip bulbs are susceptible to being destroyed by rodents and other pests. To protect them, Stewart suggests placing chicken wire beneath the bulb and spreading bone meal around it to deter rodents.
Aside from being easy to plant and blooming in spring, tulips are also an excellent addition to your landscape. But remember that these flowers need a lot of sunlight, so be sure to choose them in areas with plenty of sunlight.
Her favorite tulip varieties include those that are eye-catching, such as the chartreuse foliage of Hosta ‘Fire Island’ and the deep green of Hosta ‘Sum of All.’
Planting Perennials
In her garden, Stewart likes to use perennials, which return every year. This is an inexpensive way to add color and interest to your garden, and it also allows you to enjoy your landscape for longer than annuals.
Stewart’s garden is filled with a variety of perennials, including lilies, poppies, roses, and asters. She also grows some of her favorite flowering trees and shrubs, such as hydrangeas and arborvitaes.
